A walk by the sea to start breathing again. With my heart finally beating to the rhythm of my body, with my thoughts going along with the wave movement of a sea not yet ready to be sailed. And I always like the sea, any time of the year. It puts me back at peace with the world. So here it is, another June….
And here is also my sea, to which I feel I belong.
With my feet in the sand, I walk on the beach and let go of a whole year that has put our lives on pause. A year lived hoping that this time of pause would end soon. Lived accelerating everything, perhaps wanting to push it away faster, waiting to start looking beyond again. Beyond that wall built between you and others, the friends, the loved ones, the strangers you haven’t run into, the new traveling companions you haven’t yet been able to meet on the road. Just you, in a fence of uncertainty that has made that wall higher and higher, until you feel small, lonely and without light.
And now…there is another June.
Slowly I find the light again, the desire to be with others again. A year has passed, I look in the mirror and see myself different. I feel like someone else. Still me, of course, but there is something that makes me smile inside. It is that smile that I have learned to hold back, behind the mask, and now it comes all out. It explodes in my chest and lights up everything I look at and pushes me to new openings.
Sometimes it feels like a miracle to have come this far. A new today. I feel like I just got off a merry-go-round that made my head spin. Overwhelmed by a whirlwind of the present at full speed and with a past that seemed to belong to another person. And what could I do with a past without a continuation…? It was like stopping at a certain point, after traveling so far, because the uncertainty was stronger than the certainty of the destination. That road could have been closed. Or maybe not…but going back made no sense and neither did going forward…and here we are in the suspension of a continuous present…
One day at a time a year passed, completely inside my present. From morning to evening. I learned what I could from every single day, but I will never be the same as before.
Last June, I wrote my first editorial for a recently started blog that I put on hiatus, waiting for a time to live as I like. Unfiltered. But I have never been idle. I poured all my creative energies into other worlds, opening other drawers…and I found there an infinity of new possibilities, new paths that I look forward to pursuing.
I have changed yes, but who says it is not good? We will see together how this other new beginning will go.
And in the meantime, let’s think about June.
In uno splendido fuori programma.
This June will bring me back out.
It will bring back the late chats, to enjoying after-work aperitifs, the kind I like, surrounded by beauty. I will choose kindness to guide my choices. And I will go where I feel welcomed, intrigued, stimulated. I will choose the most difficult path, as long as I chase a light. I will still try to tell the soul of people and places. I will tell you about new weekends. Those that I have taken the time to carefully search for. I will return to share many useful tips on itineraries that I have tried myself, letting my passions carry me. And if you’ve been following me for a while I imagine these will meet yours as well. And I am grateful for that, because your expectations push me every day to do more for me and for this project as well.
I am grateful because I live by what I am, what I feel, and what I hear.
I promise that I will always be guided only by my feelings and my instincts, hunting for unique, romantic places, and beauty made of simple and true things.
