In the heart of the vibrant Fulham neighborhood: the new place to sleep in London in style is a very special Boutique hotel…
London, a bit like New York, is always a good idea. Whenever I imagine myself there I feel happy. Even now, as I write and see myself there. Walking along the Thames, crossing the Millennium Bridge with my gaze towards St Paul’s, getting lost in markets to savor the essence of London culture, wandering in the village that punctuate the stages of my itineraries to discover the life pulsating in London’s neighborhoods, stroll along streets rhythmic with Victorian architecture, stop at a pub to sip a beer in a relaxed and lively atmosphere, stop at one of the city’s many quaint bookstores or a store vintage, wander among parks and gardens chatting with friends and then stop to admire another view of the city, spend a day walking among street art e street food, discover the face of a city in turmoil that changes without giving up its identity. I love its dynamic, elegant and eccentric form, which is the same and different every time. On this new trip, I’m taking you to London in style, to an authentic Victorian townhouse in the heart of the vibrant Fulham neighborhood: Barclay House London is the new place recommended by In-Turn-With-Jo…
A Londra con stile, in un’autentica townhouse vittoriana: Barclay House London
Barclay House London is a boutique bed and breakfast in London, located at 21 Barclay Road in the vibrant Fulham neighbourhood. It is a typical Victorian townhouse, offering smart comforts and contemporary interiors that combine innovation with tradition, just a stone’s throw from Fulham Road and Fulham Broadway underground station.
If you want to know more about this neighbourhood, I have written a guide to living in London, starting from Fulham:you can find it here.
A stay in London can be very expensive and often the quality/price ratio of a hotel is not that great. I much prefer the charm and personality of a B&B to the anonymity of a star-rated hotel, especially if we are talking about a boutique hotel that manages to transport you into the local experience.
A chic and comfortable environment for a select number of guests: three rooms with bathrooms equipped with all amenities, revealing the utmost attention to detail. In addition, a secret room– The Blue Room – for special guests on one of the upper floors of the house, where you can immerse yourself in the most familiar atmosphere of this London Staycation.
“Homely and elegant”-a luxurious stay that reveals owner Charlotte’s love of architecture with an artistic and creative soul.
Charlotte and Adrian curated a smart urban design that cleverly blends elegant, contemporary style with the functionality of comfortable, convenient living. Victorian details such as cornices and dormers restore identity and memory to the building, without sacrificing an ambiance that marries modernity.
Inclusive and tailor-made for the guest, Barclay House London is designed to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. So comfortable that you almost don’t want to leave the house! What’s more, after a day out in such a stimulating city, coming home to the soothing sounds of Charlotte and Adrian’s jazz greeting you, even better accompanied by a drink before heading out for dinner at one of Fulham’s star-studded gastro-pubs, is definitely one of the highlights of this luxury B&B.
Unique in its way of being chic and local. Special in the way this community of travelers who recognize themselves in the style of In-Journey-with-Jo’ likes it. Because our way of traveling never gives up the comfort of a comfortable stay, which can give that feeling of freedom that only stimulating and meaningful experiences are able to give back.
“After years in the corporate arena and traveling the world, we enjoy sharing our home with those wise globetrotters eager to make new discoveries…”

Fulham, the perfect neighbourhood for your London staycation
What I loved most about this stay was the chance to experience London as a ‘local’, like a local, in keeping with the spirit of our travels. I like to immerse myself completely in the life of a place and the people who live there, and at every new destination I wonder what it would be like to live in this corner of the world… Let’s start here: we are in an elegant suburb of London that runs along the north bank of the Thames and encompasses Chelsea and Kensington. My impression is that it is a less polished neighbourhood than Kensington and Chelsea, closer to my way of life. The risk when you experience a place as a traveller – and even more so as a ‘tourist’ – is that you only see the good side. This is my third time back in Fulham and now I can see it a little more closely. The neighbourhood life seems more real to me. Closer to my way of being and feeling.
With Michelin-starred restaurants and gastropubs, jazz clubs, trendy cafés and shops of all kinds, this elegant and lively suburb of London lies to the west of the capital, in the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, offering a relaxing stroll along the Thames, lined with the beautiful gardens of Fulham Palace and Bishops Park.
Fulham is served by the District Line: stops Putney Bridge, Parsons Green and Fulham Broadway.
The distinctive red buses will take you to the nearest neighborhoods of Kensington and Chelsea: in particular, the 14 or 414 leave from Fulham Road and go directly to the 3 major museums in South Kensington, as well as to some of London’s most popular shopping stops, such as Harrods and Knightsbridge, to Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens.
Another beautiful way to explore London from Fulham is by boat: you can board an Uber Boat from the Putney Pierand go down to the different neighborhoods that line the banks of the river. It’s a different and fascinating way that will take you all the way to the Southbank, Docklands and Greenwich, passing London’s most iconic buildings and landmarks. Cruising the Thames with the evening lights blazing over the city is priceless.
Style and creativity are at home in this boutique B&B in London…
Charlotte and Adrian are excellent musicians and the house is filled with jazz music that will accompany your stay with a soundtrack that perfectly matches the interior design and the owners’ love of art and architecture. You will hear Charlotte and Adrian’s favourite songs: an incredible jazz duo who have always played these standards for guests of the house, recommended here in their favourite versions… The local and authentic style of this luxury stay in the heart of Fulham is also expressed through music. The sound of this house will stay with you; you’ll hear it again every time you listen to a few phrases of the jazz standards played by Charlotte and Adrian. Because music has this unique power to transport you somewhere else and suddenly, to the sound of a few notes of ‘Night and Day’, you are at 21 Barclay Road, climbing the soft carpeted stairs and sitting down on the sofa in the living room while these notes fill the Fulham house, accompanying your day in London… and every day, whenever you want, can be a little bit London, wherever you are in the world…

Hi, I'm Gio'...
I love writing and I'm always looking for stories... I've realised that the best way to find them is to travel. I love going places, losing myself in the things I like but especially in those I've never seen before... I look for emotion in places and in people, and through their eyes I hope to find a little more of myself... because in the end this is
reason that drives me to travel: to search for myself in the world. I love strong coffee, the sound of Martha Argerich, Hopper's women, Jacqueline du Pré's cello and Ella Fitzgerald's voice... I have a mad love for Bach, for my Naples and its sea...
A narrow street that exudes memories and ancient stories, a romantic courtyard where you can enjoy traditional tapas revisited by fine cuisine, a tree-lined avenue where you can stroll and enjoy the shade as the heat invades the sunny plazas, a patio where you can relive the myth of Carmen, a small square scented by orange trees as you walk through the narrow streets of the Judería colored by typical Seville ceramics. Here is my guide to getting lost in Seville and discovering the true essence of this city on a 48h walking itinerary in the city of Carmen, flamenco and light...
Simple joys: great food, great wine, nature to experience, these are the "wonders" that await you if you want to spend your happy vacation in the Finger Lakes.
If you are planning a weekend trip to London that will let you discover its most authentic face, like a local, then read this insider's guide of mine because I will give you the trendiest addresses to experience a day in the style of In-Turn-with-Jo' for a trip that also combines experience and authenticity in one of the most eclectic and cosmopolitan cities on the globe...
Northern Spain is more like an idea, something that remains ineffable, elusive, elusive like that feeling of freedom it gives you with its dreamlike and majestic landscapes, but also intimate and enveloped in a magic that we have tried to capture in the images and words that will accompany us in this new travel story that has taken us to discover an extraordinary land, still little traveled by tourism compared to other regions of Spain or Europe, but that perhaps because of this still manages to convey strong emotions of authenticity and truth. Because Northern Spain on the road is a daydream...let's start with the first stop: Basque Country!
Perched villages and colorful harbors, places of sea and land, mountain paths and forest trails, vineyards by the sea and farm tastings, rides in the wildest nature, beaches and coves with tropical atmospheres, sunsets of fire. Wild and powerful, lush and enveloping, this is Elba for me: paradise in my heart and eyes.
An intense weekend in Ischia on the road: itineraries of authentic island life, which starting from Barano will take you around the green island with me to discover unmissable stops and experiences outside the usual guidebooks...
